Father's 5th Devasam.

Today 21st July 2022, Thursday marks the 5th Anniversary as per Lunar Calendar of Father, Dr TM Balasubramaniam, (CECRI, Karaikudi) passing away (English date 15th Aug 2017).

I am doing the rituals in full scope after a gap of 2 years due to COVID, here at home. (Amritkala).

Seetharaman Vaadhiyar who lead the protocols for mother's passing away shall be guiding me.

I can't beleive that 5 years have gone in a flash. That is power of time I guess.. Not a day passese without anyone refering his memory on his humor, sarcarsm, and his generous acts....!!

Take care

Moive after 4 years in Theater! This afternoon!

My time for entertainment is to watch one English movie a year. (Only English- it is 33 years since I watched an Indian language film) that too sponsored by someone...

Shravan, (My Son) agreed to take me one movie a year from 2012. 2012 Reacher, 2016 Reacher II, 2017 Dunkirk, 2018 The Post. ( I stopped watching English movies too from 2005 or so). So 2019,20,21 and 22 so far none.

Rahda (My Daughter) is taking me to "TOP GUN-Maverick" this afternoon. (170Mn$ Budget)  I plan to go more for the music, (Top Gun Anthem is legend). Harold Faltomeyer is one of my music favorites (Axel F-Beverly Hill Cops)! From what I have heard on Youtube, the music experience I look forward to in IMAX (PVR Cinemas near home) .....

I didn't watch Top GUN -1, when it was released in 1986, I was busy with initial career days so no time for movies. (6 days* 12 hrs a day on MFG Site!).....

I look forward to the afternoon. I am told Maverick and Jurassic park have brought 75% of Pre covid revenue collection. Interesting also is 50% cinema goers for Maverick are above age 40!! (Like me)  They may want to relive the old days of 35 years back!! Tom Cruise has given them the opportunity just like ABBA did last year with their music after 40 years...! As is article below on Kate Bush's "Running up the hill" (1985)

I hope you too take time out to enjoy the fun with family /friends (Lalitha is uncomfortable with such war/fly scenes, so she opted out) ..... I read in many reviews that thankfully there is "NO WOKE"!!!

The Maverick genius of Tom Cruise

June 11, 2022 by Jnews

Tom Cruise in ‘Maverick’

I went to see Tom Cruise save the cinema last weekend. It was an overly generous gesture from a man fast approaching 60 and surely so comfortably furnished in life he could better occupy his time than running around topless with a group of men less than half his age. But that’s Tom Cruise: a tiny splinter of granite, chiselled straight from the rock of L Ron Hubbard, he’s never stinted in his commitment to serve the multiplex.

Perhaps, even more remarkably, saving the cinema is exactly what he’s done. Top Gun: Maverick has smashed it at the box office. Its domestic take on opening weekend was $ 160mn: in its second weekend, it collected a further $ 86mn – the smallest second-weekend decline for a movie opening at $ 100mn or more. Globally, the film has made some $ 600mn, and audiences are remaining steady thanks to positive word of mouth.

Top Gun, Tony Scott’s original 1986 film about the Navy’s elite school for fighter pilots, was a homoerotic orgy of greasy machismo, gunned with adrenaline-filled action sequences, motorbikes and occasional heterosexual sex. I watched it on repeat at my best friend’s house, mostly because I had a huge crush on her brother, and it was the only film he let us watch. (Go figure.) The critical consensus was that this dogged eulogy to male leadership, muscle power and US military might was pretty rubbish: I loved it for the long tracking shots in which implausibly buff actors such as Val Kilmer wandered around in towels.

Top Gun: Maverick might be described as a “legacy sequel” in that it follows the current trend for taking former hits – such as Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Terminator – and refashioning them for a younger generation. Except that while a legacy sequel usually repopulates its movies with new actors, Top Gun: Maverick is unique in that its lead action hero remains Tom Cruise. Cruise has refused to acquiesce to the wisdom that the elder actor should hand over his star power. Like cinema’s own Rafael Nadal, he has defied every expectation to remain one of the most bankable actors in modern history, and done so at a pensionable age.

While a legacy sequel usually repopulates its movies with new actors, ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is unique in that its lead action hero remains Tom Cruise

Cruise remains a mysterious character in Hollywood, but arguably his otherworldly stamina and commitment are intrinsic to his appeal. If he wants to credit his mad intensity to the teachings of Scientology then fair enough: I’ve long accepted his odd religious leanings as part exchange in the Tom Cruise package deal. Such is his dedication to authenticity that, according to a GQ interview with the film’s stunt co-ordinator Kevin LaRosa II, Cruise required the Maverick cast to undertake a grueling training program in F-18s – loaned by the US Department of Defense for $ 11,000 an hour. “Our cast had to be in the aircraft for every shot. So when they’re delivering those epic performances, they’re really in there pulling those Gs. ”

In a world of green-screen Marvel and dino-driven entertainments, there’s something hugely gratifying about watching Miles Teller’s face melting in G-force. The fact that Cruise has held a pilot’s license since 1994 and flies a P-51 Mustang only helps maintain the delicious illusion that everything in Maverick is real.

But Cruise and cinematic verisimilitude are only two factors in Maverick‘s mighty ascension. The film also envelops us in a jet stream of nostalgia as seductive as any F-18 vapor trial. From the all-too-familiar gongs that chime in the film’s opening, to the Top Gun anthem, the film has allowed us a small but poignant opportunity to look back on lost youth. In that, Maverick is far from unique. This week has found us trapped in some sort of alternate reality as a rush of Eighties legends have taken the stage again. Thanks to the current series of Stranger Things on Netflix, Kate Bush is currently celebrating her first ever US top 10 hit with “Running Up That Hill”, first released in 1985, and the single is one of the most played songs globally on Spotify.

Unlike Cruise, Bush, who last performed in public at a series of residences in 2014, has not been required to recreate her stage persona. (Feminists might argue the 63-year-old delivered her pound of flesh a long time ago.) But even the reclusive singer was persuaded to come out of semi-retirement this week to release a rare statement on her website about her newfound fame.

Karaikudi Visit (31/3- 3/4)

I wanted to carry out some rituals post mother passing away here at Bangalore, (Which are monthly, quaterly etc) at Karaikudi. However, due to covid and other situation, I could never make it to the place, (Gayathri Niwas) where parents spent good 55 years.

With Covid out of everyone's radar (Thanks mainly to Vladimir Putin), we decided to work a trip to be present on Friday, 1st April 2022, (The first anniversary). We worked a plan to carry out reciting Vedic Hymn as well as carrying out few homams for Peace and propserity to all the dear/near and the Humankind in these tough/ unpredictable situation. Our family priest Kannan Vaddhiyar arranged everything as requested and there were 5 additional vedic scholars who recited the hymn for good 4 hours besides carrying out about 6 Homams. The event lasted about 4 hours in total.

We organised breakfast and lunch which gave us an opportunity to meet people who had interacted with parents over the past 45 years or so.

We also took this visit to clean up the house to dispose items which we organised to give away to Old age home and to people who had helped/supported parents over the past 25 years. Infact these people had kept the house Spick and span despite house being locked for the past 14 months.

After visiting our native deity @KARISULNTHAMANGLAM temples, on 2nd April,(Near Tirunelveli on River Thamirabhrani banks) we reached Bangalore Sunday late evening.

While I am trying to reach out to people, the fact that I left Karaikudi about 40+ years ago in my teens and hardly spent time out there, makes it difficult to know whom all mother reached out..... Mother's first year rituals completed!!

All,

Today, with the blessings of mother’s soul, we have completed the 3 days rituals of her first year Abhdeeham. We were greatly guided in this effort by Sri Swaminathan Sastrigal, a 92 year old priest on first day rituals. Yesterday we completed the devasam (Which guides mother's soul -one year journey to heaven) which took about 3 hrs with all devasam rituals etc.  Seetharaman, the main priest did a fabulous job which mother would have approved. (He was also one to lead us for all the 13 days of rituals including the cremation, as well as monthly rituals in coordination with our family priest Mr Ramamurthy).

Today, we performed, subhasreeharam with Navagraha, Ayush homam. 6 priests were present. So from tomorrow it is back to business as usual after 355 days or so with all rituals, celebrations in order.

We plan to visit Karaikudi / Karisulthamangalam (Tinnaveli) next week.

PL find few photos taken today. Gayathri, Anand, Chinna (Mom’s brother) was present all 3 days.

We are thankful to everyone for their support in terms of words, resources, logistics, rituals, cooking food... It is deeply appreciated. I am sure mother would have seen everything from up there and would have approved of it!

Last Picture of MOM! (20/3/21)

20th March is my sister Gayathri's birthday. (We named our home at Karaikudi after her when she was born when house was under construction)!

Gayathri was here that week, on 20th March 2021 to see Mother, as it was apparent that mother was in her final stretch.

I clicked a picture of me, mom, Gayathri,  Veni, (Right to left) along with Lalitha before Gayathri and Veni left for Airport. That was final picture of Mom. She passed away on 1st April 145am.

Mother's First Annual Rituals (Varushabdhikam)

From tomorrow (Sunday, 20th March) for the next 3 days we shall be performing the First Annual rituals for our mother (Mrs. Vijaya Balasubramanyam, w/o. Late Dr TMB CECRI Karaikudi) here at Amritkala, Bangalore. The 3rd day event on Tuesday, 22nd, is to celebrate her life and restore normal order.

Anand and Gayathri shall be reaching Bangalore, in joining me for the rituals. Veni wouldn't be able to make it due to some commitment.

On 1st April 2022, (The date of departed) I plan to be in Gayathri Niwas,Karaikudi, (With Lalitha) and celebrate her life with people there (She spent almost 60 years there 1963-2021) as well as perform some rituals to restore order there for the house was locked out for 14 months. I also have plans to visit a few temples around seeking athmaa shanthi. (Which she loved, but couldn't make it on many occasions!).

We still can not believe that she is not around, as my colleague, Clyde Roe, said when my father passed away, that "It would take you some time for you to refer your father in past tense and you always feel is he is around" One year on, it is always that kind of feeling that she is around, only to realise that she is not there with us anymore and reality hits you!.

ABBA is BACK!! What a moment!!!

All of last week, I was violently sick with various symptoms! Covid test was negative, as were blood tests for Dengue, etc etc.... It was hell of a week for me and more so for the family who have to endure the emotions of some strange blood, urine tests and visits almost every day to the panel of doctors (sometimes 10miles one way!!).......I am slowly recovering, but consultations /diagnosis are half way. I hope to conclude the way forward in the next 10days as doctors are waiting for the effects of antibiotics to set in for a further week and decide the course of action! The week could not have been worse!!

Come, 10am Sunday Morning, Radha says, Dad did you notice? ABBA Has come with 2 new Songs, and they are planning to tour, and the new Album release is on NOV 5th!!! Boy!! OH BOY!! My whole perspective changed that instant!!! Gone were the crushing body pain, Fatigue,  & Excruciating knock on feeling on the groin!! Makes you wonder, if your sickness is in mind!!

Ever since, I have listened to both the new songs, no less than 10 times in 24 hrs!! As a person who grew up with the music of Karen Carpenter, ABBA (Esply "Frida") and Benjamin Orr (The Cars) who are legends (Benny and Karen Gone to be in a better place!!) in my college/ Hostel days, with their songs playing on your cassette player / Shortwave radio, to keep you company along with endless cigarettes and cups of tea to carry you through your studies/ examination!!!  I always felt with no hope ABBA Return, the music of my time is over, done & Dusted! So the feeling now that they are back is just indescribable!! The last time I checked chart toppers I think was in 1986 or so and then the interest in music just faded away!!

I am pretty sure both the songs which are already in the chart top notch (#8, 14) in the UK and Album presale orders are historic will be rewriting Music history!! The number of views on youtube is close to 30 Million in 8 days!! I also strongly feel that people who are below 45 in age, would now know what real music is all about, as ABBA last #1 was in 1980!! I am certain, "VOYAGE" will leave as much of an impression as "WATERLOO" did almost 50 years ago, which brought ABBA to the world through the EuroVision Winning entry!!

I can't wait to grab the album. The 2 songs trigger the fond memories of so many ABBA hits!!

DON'T SHUT ME DOWN  (This is just a masterpiece!)!!!

Of course, It all began,

Enjoy

Radha Vaccination!

After so much near miss, chaos, non availability of slots, Radha today managed to get her first round of Vaccination done. Covishield was administered at Vikram Hospital through walk in process! Her colleague who lives near the hospital noted the event happening and informed her to get the vaccination done! Radha's 2nd dose shall be after 15th Aug 2021.

Meanwhile Lalitha's 2nd dose is now pushed back due to new Government directive to around 29th June 2021.

I am hearing cases of people passing away even after 2 rounds of vaccination.  We lost our relative this week, aged 74 due to such situation. (Google Breakthrough infection!).... So all of you take care, keep distance, avoid crowds, and stay safe!!

FAILED STATE!! (INDIA TODAY Editorial and Pictures)!!!

LINK TO PDF

The entire issue of India today this week, May 17th, (except few of 66 pages which is to Elections) is covering Covid situation!! I am not troubling you with all pages! I am sending a few pictures which speak for itself!+ First time in the magazine, India today History, an Editor has used up more than 1 page to give his piece of mind to the government / Administration!!!

You may also read, if you wish, this week editorial of "Lancet" (#1 Science) global Magazine on COVID In INDIA!!

In addition to death in the family of my Aunt, and a critical close relative now, I am now beginning to lose neighbours in the apartment, close friends & colleagues, due to COVID rampage!! So the enemy is at the doorstep!

I sincerely hope that we see light at the end of the tunnel in the coming weeks or months.!! *I have never ever prayed for the country, as I always believed, each is on his own and you take care of yourself, the country takes care of itself!! Also, we  (I, the 1960ers) are successful, IN-SPITE of the inept government, and system!*  That thinking of mine, now appears, a thing of the past, dead and buried. With the government and administration failing so spectacularly; the resultant spill over may be coming to haunt us, with we nowhere to RUN AND HIDE. The mortal fear is real for the county and people, should there be just one instance of bad luck !! We all shall hang in there and overcome, U all stay safe! GOD BLESS!!!

*Strangely, I had this unknown anxious feeling exactly 50 years back, 1971, when the 9 day War broke out!! We overcame that, thanks to Leadership!!*

LANCET Editorial----> COVID Horror in INDIA (My title) !!!

EDITORIAL| VOLUME 397, ISSUE 10286, P1683, MAY 08, 2021

India's COVID-19 emergency

The Lancet#1 Science Journal taking the Indian Government to cleaners!!! I totally agree!!!

The scenes of suffering in India are hard to comprehend. As of May 4, more than 20·2 million cases of COVID-19 had been reported, with a rolling average of 378 000 cases a day, together with more than 222 000 deaths, which experts believe are likely to be substantial underestimates. Hospitals are overwhelmed, and health workers are exhausted and becoming infected. Social media is full of desperate people (doctors and the public) seeking medical oxygen, hospital beds, and other necessities. Yet before the second wave of cases of COVID-19 began to mount in early March, Indian Minister of Health Harsh Vardhan declared that India was in the “endgame” of the epidemic. The impression from the government was that India had beaten COVID-19 after several months of low case counts, despite repeated warnings of the dangers of a second wave and the emergence of new strains. Modelling suggested falsely that India had reached herd immunity, encouraging complacency and insufficient preparation, but a serosurvey by the Indian Council of Medical Research in January suggested that only 21% of the population had antibodies against SARS-CoV-2. At times, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Government has seemed more intent on removing criticism on Twitter than trying to control the pandemic.

Despite warnings about the risks of superspreader events, the government allowed religious festivals to go ahead, drawing millions of people from around the country, along with huge political rallies—conspicuous for their lack of COVID-19 mitigation measures. The message that COVID-19 was essentially over also slowed the start of India's COVID-19 vaccination campaign, which has vaccinated less than 2% of the population. At the federal level, India's vaccination plan soon fell apart. The government abruptly shifted course without discussing the change in policy with states, expanding vaccination to everyone older than 18 years, draining supplies, and creating mass confusion and a market for vaccine doses in which states and hospital systems competed.

The crisis has not been equally distributed, with states such as Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra unprepared for the sudden spike in cases, quickly running out of medical oxygen, hospital space, and overwhelming the capacity of cremation sites, and with some state governments threatening those asking for oxygen or a hospital bed with national security laws. Others, such as Kerala and Odisha, were better prepared, and have been able to produce enough medical oxygen in this second wave to export it to other states.

India must now pursue a two-pronged strategy. First, the botched vaccination campaign must be rationalised and implemented with all due speed. There are two immediate bottlenecks to overcome: increasing vaccine supply (some of which should come from abroad) and setting up a distribution campaign that can cover not just urban but also rural and poorer citizens, who constitute more than 65% of the population (over 800 million people) but face a desperate scarcity of public health and primary care facilities. The government must work with local and primary health-care centres that know their communities and create an equitable distribution system for the vaccine.

Second, India must reduce SARS-CoV-2 transmission as much as possible while the vaccine is rolled out. As cases continue to mount, the government must publish accurate data in a timely manner, and forthrightly explain to the public what is happening and what is needed to bend the epidemic curve, including the possibility of a new federal lockdown. Genome sequencing needs to be expanded to better track, understand, and control emerging and more transmissible SARS-CoV-2 variants. Local governments have begun taking disease-containment measures, but the federal government has an essential role in explaining to the public the necessity of masking, social distancing, halting mass gatherings, voluntary quarantine, and testing. Modi's actions in attempting to stifle criticism and open discussion during the crisis are inexcusable.

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation estimates that India will see a staggering 1 million deaths from COVID-19 by Aug 1. If that outcome were to happen, Modi's Government would be responsible for presiding over a self-inflicted national catastrophe. India squandered its early successes in controlling COVID-19. Until April, the government's COVID-19 taskforce had not met in months. The consequences of that decision are clear before us, and India must now restructure its response while the crisis rages. The success of that effort will depend on the government owning up to its mistakes, providing responsible leadership and transparency, and implementing a public health response that has science at its heart.

COVID VACCINATION MESS (BANGALORE- I GUESS ALL INDIA Same story)

Over the past 3 days we have been struggling to get vaccination slots at Bangalore. SMS confirming vaccination on a particular date gets cancelled in hours saying Regret!! Paid vaccinations are very few! Free vaccination spots have rush/ lack of social distancing, especially in place like Bangalore with 20,000+ cases.

The 18+ vaccination slots are non existent with about 300 doses /day for a population of 15 Million at Bangalore. (Yes it is 0, in other cities in Karnataka and 0 in few states)....

So be prepared for a long hard ride. Person like me are lucky to have got both shots. Lalitha is due for II round of COVID which technically she can stretch up to 3rd July (90 days for COVID SHEILD)! Radha is due for her vaccination we hope that she finds slot in the next few days/ weeks.

I gone through the COWIN PORTAL and data is interesting! The vaccinations /day has come down from 2.7 Crores/day to 90 Lacs /day.

Karnataka with Population of 7.5 Crores is 6th with vaccination of 1.2 Crores. Still a long way to go in these 60 days of vaccination done!!!
You see the Issue in India, Only 18 Crore People have registered so far out of Population of 100 Crores.... Goes to show TECH CAN only do so much!! How Governemnt is going to reach out RURAL area?? This time in second wave, the rural India is taking a big hit in # cases, and protection of people there is key!
Out of 59,000 Centere for vaccination, only 3000 Is PVT!!! Cost of Vaccination at PVT clinic is about Rs.1300 per dose!! Goes to show exploitation!!!

For People's sake, I hope things fasten up!! I feel very lucky once again as 1 in 3 Crore Indians to have got both rounds without sweat!!!

Shravan Graduation -MS.

It looks yesterday, (March 2019, 2200 hrs) when Shravan told us, "Hello, I Got admission for MS in Computer Science at Columbia University, New York"!! We were more than thrilled, He had almost given up applying that year, (He selected only top 5 universities in 2017, 18) I ecouraged him to spread his net a bit wide. His contention was that, Columbia fee is very expensive, as was New York to live. Besides he has  settled very well and began to excel in his career at TEXAS Instruments here at Bangalore!!

Email announcing Admission March 2019.

Yesterday, (29th April, Thursday) Shravan completed and received his"Masters of Science" (MS) degree in Computer Science. It was a proud moment for us! When the admissions were completed, Shravan informed us that it will be a great occasion to be in New York for the graduation ceremony ! It would have been the first overseas trip for Lalitha.!! As things shaped up, it was very different turn of events come March 2020 and things got worse!

We are very proud of Shrvan to achieve this Masters Degree, in such a tiring /hard circumstance, COVID, George Floyd riots (Especially he lived near Bronx)!! No wonder, within 4 hours of finishing his final exams on 19th December 2020, He took the United Flight to New Delhi. He was not ready to spend a minute more than necessary in New York in such a situation!

Message from Lalitha on Graduation Portal.

Roll Call

Diploma Parchment.

Shravan has since moved to Silicon Valley, and now is settling down there!! We wish him all the very best. He has become second person, in our family in 50 years to receive Master Degree / Ph.D outside India. (My Uncle did in Mathematics, 1966 in Canada).

We must, also thank HDFC Credila for working out a favorable education loan, which reduced some burden on us parents.
(Interesting, 1963, Dad stood as guarantor for Uncle's loan- when even rich relatives shunned away. Uncle,in gratitude, sponsored his brother, Dad, to do his Masters in 1968 ( I was 5 then) at Benares. Dad then went to complete his Ph.D, 1990, when Lalitha entered our life.)

No Slot for below 45 age for Vaccination!!!!

COVIN Portal open for registration at 4pm for vaccination for all in India above 18...

No Hopsital is giving slot!! All are only accepting those above 45!!!  I tried many pincode in Bangalore as well as other cities!!

This is JOKE!!!

Mother's 1st Month Ritual update

From Today, for next 3 days we shall be performing Mother's 28th day ritual as well 1st Month completion ritual here at Bangalore. We shall also be performing the 45th day, 6th month rituals as a special event besides every month ritual (Falls on 5th day following FULL MOON of every Tamil Month)!

Due to COVID Crisis and mayhem of cases in Bangalore, we felt that best way forward is to do remote management with Vaadhyaar reciting the mantras over phone, and I repeat!! Yes, we should have served LUNCH to 2 Brahmins; we decided that we shall perform the same either during second or third month rituals, when situation improves.!! Indeed few of our regular priests are also not doing well (NOT COVID) to attend.! I thought that this best practical way to meet our obligations!

I very much wanted to perform today's rituals at Karaikudi, but due to the COVID situation, we couldnt make it there! As a Compromise, today, I requested our Vaadhiyaar, Kannan (His grandfather started interaction with us as priest in 1972, Kannan has taken over after his passing away)! to perform a Punyajaanam (Sacred water sprinkling ritual to purify "Gayathri Niwas" post mother's departure, similar to which we did on here on the 11th day!). This was completed today, local people were of help to open and clean up the house making it ready!

Lalitha cooked a 6 course meal as lunch, (as per today's protocol with special ingradients) and served to mother's portrait, and first portion to the bird- Crow! It came to eat within minutes of serving!!

Vaccination Update

I am now in to 60 hrs in to 2nd dose of Vaccination. Unlike 1st dose, this one so far is pretty uneventful. I had shoulder pain and stiffness in the first jab. None whatsoever as side effects as of now...!!!

I have received vaccination certificate from the Govt. They also asked for feeback on the performance / experience/ support from vaccination center experience in few questions with rating.! Good move! I was overall happy with both visits.

With the vaccination opening up for all, I am sure the rush for getting vaccinated would be mad! I hope the other family members could manage to get their shots without any logistics challenge. I am hearing of people /relatives getting delayed in their vaccination (1st shot/ 2nd shot) in other cities!

Certificate.

2nd Round Vaccination done today!

With shortage of vaccines and cases crossing 330,000 a day, (13,000 in Bangalore which > Entire Tamil Nadu) I was Skeptical that my appointment for 2nd & final round vaccination would be done as worked out today!

I was in early, at 945am, so could get a shot. I got the COVID Sheild one. I am told, stocks go out by 12noon and then it is all chaos and disorder...

No surprise at that with all press coverage at the mess that is happening!!!! As I was completing the waiting process, the rush began and I was wondering what is Social distance and all, it is impossible in a sense...

My first round was without any symptoms, reactions. I hope this too goes smooth for the  next 48 hours. Lalitha had major reaction/ side effects with headache, high fever,( With mother's rituals, amidst) still swelling of vaccination spot pain even after 15 days.

With Shravan doing his vaccniation at USA, It is now left for Radha to get done her's in coming days so that all are covered.

Mother's 13th day Ritual (Celebrating her life)

We are done with mother's 12 day rituals (Gayathri and Veni could make it, Anand Couldn't). She is now at a better place with her ancestors. I can say with certainty, she must be happy out there, for the rituals that were conducted were of Hindu Traditional aspects going in to details, which she very much loves. I am extremely thankful the team of vedic scholars to have guided us over the past 12 days for every aspect right from Cremation to until now! I was extremely touched, when an Octanegarian vedic scholar, came home, to recite "கர்ண மந்திரம்" for mother, immediately up on her soul leaving the body!
I was able to adjust myself to her needs/ requirements/ trantrums etc, with me showing no adverse reactions at any stage especially over the past 3 years when her health started going downhill !! (I can't say that for Dad, for we almost differed on anything and everything!)!!! More so, Lalitha did her immense best over the past 7 years for both Father and Mother, ever since the Fracture of Father's hip/ leg in Oct 2013, and subsequent 10s of hospitalisation / ICU, for both of them!

Today is the auspicious, 13th day occasion to rejoice her life! I have requested folks to execute a ceremony, at Gayathri Niwas, Karaikudi, today, where she spent good 50 years. We shall be releasing 2 portraits which will now be displayed at our home and shall be used in all our family occasions to grace and bless us on such occasions.
Finally, I am indeed touched by calls, messages, text etc that have been pouring in. Many have got in touch, after good 20 years or so, or some I am hearing them the first time!! Goes to show how much she touched so many people in their lives, !!! I would try to respond in days to come!

Lalitha got her vaccination!

Lalitha got her 1st round of vaccination done today. Second round in about 35-45 days from now.

She was to get herself vaccinated yesterday, but the hospital when called to confirm appointment, replied that "Vaccines are Stock out and may take a couple of days"! (Columbia Asia Hospital) We chose another venue by chosing different pin code.

Amazing to see India has done about 75 Million Vaccinations. That is almost entire population of UK + Australia....!!!

*******************************************************************************

We announce the passing away of our mother Mrs. Vijaya Balasubramaniyam on 1st April 2021, 2am, at her son's residence at Malleswaram, Bangalore. The 10-13th day rituals shall be conducted at the above address.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I have now commenced, the rituals for the mother's departed soul. The ceremonies shall last 12 days. 13th day is cleansing up, and new era starts.

The days 1 to 9 rituals consists of doing prayers and detailed 30 minutes Sanskrit rituals (7am with taking bath at home  and performing place, total of 3 times) (mostly done using left hand, left side), and offering rice balls coated with Honey, Clarifiied butter, Curd, Seaseme seed, and Milk. The coconut water is kept too at the thatched roof place where the soul is considered to be resting for 11 days. Day 10 shall involve Women folks doing the rituals from their end (Daughter, Aunt, Daughter in law, Granddaughter!). Day 11 and 12 is when Soul departs earthly bonds as well as offering to all ancestoral souls.

Day 13 is call to rejoice life of late soul, as well as feed to dear/ near and friends and start life back to normal.

Vaadhiyar Seetharaman (Hennur) Who is leading all 13 days of rituals for departed soul.

The 10*8 Room given to us at ritural place, Malleswaram, for the rituals for 11 days. Center pot and corner pot we do rituals daily with offering of rice ball and coconut to the corner one. Center one is to quench thist of soul!

Overview of the room with 2 places to do rituals.

Rice Balls coated with seasme, Honey, Curd, Milk, fed to soul, passed on to the water body.

Sankey Tank Malleswaram, the waterbody.

Overall, I feel that the quality of rituals, the knowledge, depth of interest, of vaadhiyars, in Bangalore is far superior than in B, C Grade cities. I wonder if this is due to competition that exist!
