Despite voting for him in 2014, my skepticism was immediate when he announced a cabinet filled with what I considered unqualified ministers and losers. It was clear to me that Modi's leadership was a façade.

The Modi era has been marked by a relentless focus on his persona rather than the BJP's collective vision. The chants of "Modi will do this, Modi will do that" have now been silenced as the people have finally cut him down to size. The reality of his political isolation has hit hard, and now he is at the mercy of turncoats like Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar. For the first time in his political life, Modi must accommodate his partners, relinquishing his egoistic and narcissistic ways. This shift will hopefully force him to move from the far-right towards a more centrist position, and we might even see a reduction in the divisive rhetoric and policies that have targeted the Muslim community. Also Rural community has summarily rejected BJP policies, also 70% Constituencies Modi canvassed for candidates have lost.

Despite my critical view of Tamil Nadu's cultural values, I must salute my home state for giving zero seats to the BJP, once again demonstrating that divisive, regional politics will not prevail here. For the sake of the Indian people, I hope this new government, despite its shaky foundation and reliance on opportunistic allies, lasts the full five years. Whether these turncoats will allow it is the million-dollar question.
