Today, May 24th, 2024 (Anusham Star), marks the 129th Birth Ritual of Kanchi Paramacharya. My late mother was a staunch devotee of the Paramacharya, who was always keen to support Vedic rituals and hymns. Father too did his bit for Kanchi mutt in his own way. In honor of this auspicious occasion, I organized a Vedic chanting session with our Kannan Vadiyar at Karaikudi. The chanting lasted for an hour from 9 am to 10 am, followed by the distribution of prasadam. Five Brahmin priests participated in this sacred event. (Watch Youtube Video)
Today also marks the 41st year of the Paramacharya's portrait arriving at Karaikudi from Madurai. My late uncle, TM Swaminathan, was the original recipient of the portrait in Madurai. He felt it would be more apt at Gayathri Niwas, the house he planned in 1970 for my father. Interestingly, the portrait was drawn by a Muslim painter, adding a unique touch to its history.
Additionally, Lalitha celebrated Anusham at Amritkala. My mother used to make a special dish called "Okkarai" (a sweet) on this day every year, and Lalitha tried her hand at it this year. Given her culinary skills, it turned out well.
This day serves as a beautiful reminder of our family's devotion and the rich traditions we continue to uphold in memory of our loved Parents and the revered Paramacharya.
