America's Return to Sanity: A Personal Reflection

 #463

Today, I want to chat about something that's been on my mind lately: the return of sanity to America. After what feels like an eternity of madness, it seems like common sense and rational thinking are finally making a comeback.

For the past six years, we've witnessed a whirlwind of ideologies like Woke culture, ESG initiatives, and DEI agendas dominating the narrative. While these movements may have started with good intentions, they often led to unrealistic, impossible, and downright irrational outcomes. It's as if we were living in a dream world where the absurd became the norm.

But hey, guess what? It looks like the tide is turning. The success today of Oppenheimer at the Oscars with 7 Awards,is a testament to this shift. It's refreshing to see a film grounded in common sense and practicality taking center stage. And let's not forget about Barbie being consigned to the dustbin—perhaps a symbolic farewell to the extremes of the woke and DEI agendas besides (White) Men Thrashing.

Remember those horror predictions about foreign films dominating the awards? Well, I, for one, breathed a sigh of relief when that didn't come to pass. Who could forget the debacle with Parasite winning an Oscar for best film? Honestly, it was a disgrace when I watched..!

Now, with sanity prevailing and the white man finding his voice again, I dare to hope for better days ahead. The efforts of individuals like Elon Musk, who's pushing the boundaries of innovation with SpaceX, Opening Twitter to level playing platform for conservatives, and Bill Ackman, who's waging war on academic inefficiency, are paving the way for a brighter future.

And let's not overlook the tireless advocacy of voices like Victor Davis Hansen and Megyn Kelly. Their unwavering commitment to reason and truth has been instrumental in bringing us to this turning point.

So, here's to a return to sanity, to a future where practical intellect reigns supreme. The journey ahead won't be easy, but with each step, we're getting closer to the America we know and love. The WHITE MAN is BACK... You need them for a better / Great America.. Others May matter or may not, they are tit bits and side story!

Until next time,

Karthik

I was always hopeful after Top Gun Maverick's performance and reception, that Common sense would return soon.. Glad it happened sooner!

MH 370 10 years on! 302 Rowe, PST to PDT.

 #463

Today marks a somber milestone – the 10th anniversary of the mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370. (KL to Beijing) As we reflect on this tragic event, it's hard not to think about the families who have been left with unanswered questions and a lingering sense of grief.

Imagine the agony of not knowing what happened to your loved ones, of grappling with uncertainty day after day. For the families of those onboard MH370, this has been their reality for a decade now. The lack of closure must weigh heavy on their hearts, leaving them with a void that can never truly be filled.

And then there are those who, by some twist of fate, narrowly missed being on that flight. Perhaps they had a last-minute change of plans or a stroke of luck that kept them grounded. For them, the anniversary serves as a stark reminder of how fragile life can be and how easily it can change in an instant.

As we pay tribute to the 239 souls who vanished that fateful day, let's also spare a thought for the countless others whose lives were forever altered by this tragedy. May they find solace in the memories of their loved ones and may the truth about MH370 finally come to light.

Here's to hoping that a resolution is on the horizon, bringing some semblance of closure to those who need it most.

Rowe, Roberts, Big Bird Joel Garner, and Colin Croft... Never such legends in heap in any team..!

Can you believe it's been 50 years today, since Lawrence George Rowe stunned the cricketing world with his monumental innings of 302 against England at Bridge Town, Barbados? I still vividly recall following the match on the radio, hanging onto every ball with bated breath.

Rowe, who is from Jamaica, who had already made waves in the cricketing arena with a remarkable debut, scoring 214 and 100 in his first test match, cemented his place in history with this triple century. His elegant strokeplay and sheer determination mesmerized fans around the globe, making it an unforgettable moment for cricket enthusiasts like us.

Although Rowe fell short of surpassing Sir Gary Sobers' record score of 365, his triple century remains etched in our memories as a testament to his incredible talent and unwavering resolve.

What makes Rowe's feat even more remarkable is the fact that he battled against adversity throughout his career. From his early struggles with grass allergies to the premature end of his playing days, he faced challenges that would have deterred lesser individuals. Yet, he continued to leave an indelible mark on the cricketing world with his flair and finesse.

As we commemorate this golden anniversary, let's celebrate the legacy of Lawrence Rowe and the enduring magic of cricket that brings us together, even after all these years.

Here's to you, Lawrence Rowe, and to the timeless spirit of the game. I always kept Lawrence Rowe ranked, very very high above Viv Richards, I always wonder but for his allergy and withdrawl from the Indian tour of 1974, Would Richards even have found a place in the playing XI?

In matter of minutes, (330pm) Shravan and Radha would have their clock moved by one hour from 2am to 3am to begin day light Savings time. (Clock will be moved back an hour on November 3rd!). So from 3am it will become PDT (Pacific Day Light savings time) from Pacific Standard Time. The time difference would become 121/2 hrs from current 131/2 hrs. Indians can close their day early an hour in view of interactions that can happen an hour early.

Well, the main idea behind DST is to make better use of daylight during the longer days of summer. By shifting the clock forward in the spring, we get more daylight in the evenings, which can be handy for outdoor activities and, historically, for saving energy by reducing the need for artificial lighting.

The concept of DST was first proposed by Benjamin Franklin in 1784 as a way to save candles. It was later adopted and refined by various countries around the world, including the USA. UK would move the clock forward in a couple of weeks.

Of course, not everyone is a fan of DST, and there's ongoing debate about its effectiveness and impact on things like sleep patterns and productivity. But for now, it's become a familiar ritual that marks the transition into the warmer months.

So, whether you love it or loathe it, don't forget to set your clocks forward and enjoy that extra hour of daylight!

Catch you later, Karthik

Anand, Trump, Overacheiver vs Higher Acheiver, Blind Faith.

 #462

Yesterday, March 6th, 2024, marked my brother Anand's 59th birthday. Anand, based in Sohar, Oman, stands in stark contrast to me in terms of personality. While I am brash and indifferent, preferring instant decisions and the "my way or the highway" approach, Anand is a people connector, always willing to go out of his way to help and carefully consider decisions. Even in matters of love, our approaches diverge; I advocate for "marry and love," while he believes in "love and marry." Anand's unwavering support at family events is truly remarkable. As the Tamil saying goes, "தம்பி உடையான் படைக்கு அஞ்சான்" (One who has a younger brother is never afraid of a battalion). Here's to wishing him a fantastic year ahead. I had a conversation with him and assured him that Lalitha and I will definitely visit Oman before the end of 2024, considering he has been settled there for 18 years.

So, with just 150 days left before the RNC, Donald Trump has clinched the nomination. It's remarkable how swiftly this was achieved; perhaps the fastest ever. Nimrata unnecessarily dragged out this race for an extra 3-4 weeks. It's time for all Republicans to rally behind DJT and ensure that the corrupt, crooked, and criminal Democrats are ousted from power in the White House, Senate, and Congress. Democrats will resort to every possible illegal and intimidating tactic to thwart Trump, and I wouldn't even rule out physical measures, given their fear of him. It's reassuring to hear that volunteer work for Republican ballot collection has already commenced, with funds pouring in from donors to outplay the Democrats at their own game. Brace yourself; this promises to be the bitterest and bloodiest election in American history.

Let's dive into a fascinating topic: the distinction between overachievers and high achievers. While these terms might seem interchangeable at first glance, they carry nuanced differences that can profoundly impact our approach to success.

Let's start by defining each term:

Overachiever: This term typically refers to someone who sets extremely high goals for themselves and goes above and beyond to surpass these expectations. Overachievers often push themselves relentlessly, seeking perfection in every task they undertake. They thrive on competition and may sacrifice other aspects of their lives, such as personal relationships or well-being, in pursuit of their goals.

High Achiever: On the other hand, a high achiever is someone who consistently performs at a high level and achieves notable success in their endeavors. Unlike overachievers, high achievers set ambitious yet realistic goals and focus on maintaining a healthy balance between work and personal life. They are driven by intrinsic motivation and derive satisfaction from their accomplishments, rather than external validation.

Now, let's explore how these two types of individuals approach success in their own unique ways:

1. Goal Setting: Overachievers tend to set lofty, often unrealistic goals for themselves, aiming for nothing short of perfection. In contrast, high achievers set challenging yet attainable goals that align with their values and priorities.

2. Work Ethic: Overachievers are known for their intense work ethic and relentless pursuit of success. They are willing to put in long hours and make significant sacrifices to reach their goals. High achievers also work hard, but they prioritize efficiency and effectiveness, striving to achieve their objectives without compromising their well-being.

3. Motivation: Overachievers are often driven by external validation and the desire to outperform others. They may feel a constant need to prove themselves and seek approval from authority figures. High achievers, on the other hand, are motivated by intrinsic factors such as personal growth, mastery, and fulfillment. They are less concerned with comparison and more focused on continuous improvement.

4. Approach to Failure: When faced with setbacks or failure, overachievers may experience intense feelings of disappointment or inadequacy. They may view failure as unacceptable and struggle to bounce back from setbacks. In contrast, high achievers see failure as a natural part of the learning process. They embrace challenges as opportunities for growth and resilience, using failure as a stepping stone to future success.

So, which approach is best? The answer isn't straightforward. While overachievers may achieve impressive results in the short term, their relentless pursuit of perfection can lead to burnout and diminished well-being. On the other hand, high achievers prioritize sustainable success and overall life satisfaction. They understand the importance of balance and recognize that true success extends beyond professional accomplishments.

In conclusion, whether you identify as an overachiever or a high achiever, it's essential to reflect on your goals, values, and priorities. Strive for excellence, but don't lose sight of what truly matters in life. Remember, success is not just about reaching the top; it's about enjoying the journey along the way. So, embrace your unique approach to success and keep striving for greatness, one achievement at a time!

I want to address a concerning trend that seems to be pervasive in our society: blind faith in political parties and their ideologies. It's disheartening to observe how even educated individuals can become emotionally attached to a particular political party, to the extent that they reject contrary views, backed by facts and data.

I am writing this post,as a response I got when I shared an Economist article this week on How South is all set to Reject BJP as well as South India is the most happening place and if you want to growth, Go South. ( I did this 28 years back when I relocated back from Gujarat!). People always want people to nod around them and are not ready to view any other views.

In my experience, I've noticed this phenomenon particularly among supporters of the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party), even in educated circles in South India, where rationality and common sense are highly valued. Despite being presented with evidence that challenges their beliefs, some individuals remain steadfast in their support, unwilling to consider alternative perspectives.

This blind faith in a political party, regardless of its actions or policies, is concerning. No party is infallible, and it's essential to critically evaluate their actions and ideologies. In my view, the BJP is no exception; it's as susceptible to corruption and manipulation as any other political entity.

What's even more troubling is how this blind allegiance can strain personal relationships and interactions. People are willing to sever ties with friends and family members over political differences, succumbing to fanaticism that breeds division and animosity.

It's crucial for us, as individuals, to rise above blind faith and engage in rational discourse. We must be open to considering different viewpoints, even if they challenge our beliefs. Embracing diversity of thought and being willing to engage in respectful debate is fundamental to a healthy democracy. More so Politics, like education and Medicare has become Business with counting return on Investment.

Let's not allow political allegiances to blind us to reality. Instead, let's strive for critical thinking, empathy, and constructive dialogue. Only then can we hope to build a society based on reason, tolerance, and mutual respect.

Sincerely, Karthik

Yes I was under the weather, now doing a lot better... Hopefully, another 24 hrs to wait. It is 7 days since I had done my 20,000 steps routine/day. Can't wait to resume.

Karen, Fast Car,

I was away on Business travel to Bombay, all week. I am also under the weather now. This is a breif post.

On this day, March 2nd, we honor the birth anniversary of the legendary Karen Carpenter, born in 1950. Although she left us too soon in 1983 at the age of 32, her timeless music continues to resonate deeply with listeners around the world. As I type this post, her soulful melodies fill the air, a reminder of the enduring impact she had on the music industry.

Karen Carpenter's legacy is immortalized through her unforgettable songs, each one leaving an indelible mark on our hearts. Despite her untimely departure, her voice remains a source of comfort and inspiration for generations to come. She will always be missed, but her music will forever live on.

In a surprising turn of events, Tracy Chapman's iconic song "Fast Car" has made a triumphant return to the spotlight, 36 years after its initial release. This timeless classic has soared to the top of the charts on iTunes, a remarkable feat considering its original peak at #4 in 1988. Tracy Chapman emerged from obscurity to perform the song alongside Luke Combs at the Grammy Awards a few weeks ago, captivating audiences with her raw talent and undeniable charm.

The resurgence of "Fast Car" serves as a testament to the enduring power of music and its ability to transcend time. It is a reminder that great songs never truly fade away, but instead, they find new life and relevance with each passing generation. Tracy Chapman's resurgence on iTunes is a historic moment, showcasing the timeless appeal of her music and the unwavering support of her fans.

As we celebrate the birth anniversary of Karen Carpenter and applaud Tracy Chapman's remarkable achievement, let us take a moment to appreciate the magic of music. It has the extraordinary ability to unite us, uplift our spirits, and keep the memories of our favorite artists alive forever.

Let's keep the music playing, honoring the legacies of those who have left us and celebrating the talents of those who continue to inspire us today.

Regards

Karthik

George Harrison. (1943-2001).

 #460

Today, 25/2, marks the birth anniversary of a legend who left an indelible mark on the world of music and spirituality – George Harrison. Had he been with us today, he would have turned 81, but his legacy continues to resonate through time.

As one of the Fab Four of The Beatles, George wasn't just a guitarist; he was a sonic architect, shaping the band's sound with his distinctive melodies and soulful compositions. Songs like "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" stand as testaments to his unparalleled talent, with poignant lyrics that echo the depths of human emotion.

But George's influence transcended mere musical prowess.
His spiritual journey led him to explore the depths of Hinduism and Eastern philosophy, a quest that found expression in his music. Tracks like "Within You Without You" from the groundbreaking album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" showcase his deep immersion in Indian classical music, blending sitar and tabla with Western rock in a mesmerizing fusion.

Beyond the stage, George was a beacon of compassion and philanthropy. His Concert for Bangladesh remains one of the most significant humanitarian efforts in music history, showcasing his commitment to using his platform for the greater good.

As we celebrate his life today, let's not forget the timeless classics he gifted us: "Here Comes the Sun," a ray of hope in the darkest of times, and "My Sweet Lord," a heartfelt ode to divine love and universal spirituality.

George Harrison's legacy lives on in every note of his music, every beat of his heart, and every soul he touched along the way. So here's to you, George – a true icon, a spiritual seeker, and forever, our Sweet Lord.

Summer is here, Stay Hydrated&Other factors.

 #460

Bangalore is hot it is now 28C at 10am with Mercury expected to high at 33C. Also the UV Index a key factor which causes skin harm/ tiredness is 13 which is dangerously high for exposure. So please stay Hydrated and follow other precautions as below.

Summer can be intense, especially in Bangalore. Here are some key factors to stay protected and hydrated:

  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Set reminders if needed, to ensure you're drinking water regularly.
  • Electrolytes: Replenish electrolytes lost through sweat by consuming sports drinks or coconut water.
  • Avoid Peak Sun Hours: Try to stay indoors or in shaded areas during the hottest part of the day, typically between 11 AM and 3 PM.
  • Light Clothing: Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing to stay cool.
  • Sun Protection: Use sunscreen with a high SPF, wear a hat, and use sunglasses to protect yourself from harmful UV rays.
  • Cooling Measures: Take cool showers or baths, use fans or air conditioning, and use wet towels or cloths to cool down.
  • Limit Outdoor Activities: If possible, schedule outdoor activities during cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or evening. (Avoid 11am to 3pm).

Remember, staying hydrated is key to combating the heat and preventing heat-related illnesses. Take care and stay cool!

The recommended water intake can vary depending on factors like age, weight, activity level, and climate. As a general guideline, adults are often advised to drink around 2 to 3 liters (about 8 to 12 cups) of water per day. However, some experts suggest even more, especially in hot climates or during vigorous exercise.

A good rule of thumb is to listen to your body. If you're feeling thirsty, it's a sign that you may need to drink more water. Also, pay attention to the color of your urine; pale yellow or straw-colored urine usually indicates adequate hydration, while dark yellow urine may mean you need to drink more fluids.

So, while aiming for 2 to 3 liters is a good start, adjust based on your individual needs and circumstances. Stay hydrated...

A UV index of 13 which is usual in Bangalore between February and April, is indeed quite high, so it's important to take extra precautions to protect yourself from the sun's harmful rays. Here's what you can do:

  • Limit Outdoor Exposure: Try to stay indoors during peak sun hours, typically between 11 AM and 3 PM, when UV radiation is strongest.
  • Use Sunscreen: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF (30 or above) to all exposed skin, and reapply every 2 hours or after sweating or swimming.
  • Wear Protective Clothing: Opt for clothing that covers your skin, such as long sleeves, pants, and wide-brimmed hats.
  • Seek Shade: When outdoors, seek shade from trees, umbrellas, or buildings to reduce direct exposure to the sun.
  • Wear Sunglasses: Choose sunglasses that block both UVA and UVB rays to protect your eyes from damage.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, especially in hot weather.

  1. Check UV Index: Keep an eye on the UV index forecast and plan your outdoor activities accordingly. You can use weather apps or websites to track the UV index in your area.

By taking these precautions, you can enjoy the outdoors while minimizing the risk of sunburn, skin damage, and other health issues associated with high UV exposure. Take care and stay safe in the sun.

When it comes to food during the summer, here are some tips to keep you feeling refreshed and energized:

  • Hydrating Fruits and Veggies: Load up on water-rich fruits and vegetables like watermelon, cucumber, oranges, strawberries, and lettuce to stay hydrated.
  • Light and Fresh Meals: Opt for lighter meals that are easy to digest, such as salads, grilled vegetables, cold soups, and lean proteins like chicken or fish.
  • Cooling Beverages: Enjoy chilled beverages like infused water, lemonade, coconut water, and iced herbal teas, butter mlik to quench your thirst and stay cool.
  • Healthy Snacks: Choose snacks that are high in water content and nutrients, like yogurt, smoothies, frozen grapes, and raw veggies with hummus.
  • Limit Heavy and Spicy Foods: Try to avoid heavy, greasy, and spicy foods that can make you feel sluggish and raise your body temperature.
  • Include Whole Grains: Incorporate whole grains like quinoa, brown rice, and whole wheat bread into your meals for sustained energy and fiber.
  • Watch Your Portions: Be mindful of portion sizes, especially when it's hot outside, as overeating can make you feel uncomfortable and lethargic.

By focusing on hydrating foods, light meals, and refreshing beverages, you can beat the heat and stay healthy during the summer months.

Heat stroke is a serious condition that occurs when the body's temperature rises to dangerous levels, usually above 104°F (40°C). It can happen when the body's cooling mechanisms, such as sweating, fail to regulate temperature properly. Here's what you need to know:

Symptoms of heat stroke:

  • High body temperature (above 104°F or 40°C)
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Rapid breathing
  • Throbbing headache
  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Hot, dry skin (lack of sweating)
  • Confusion, agitation, or unconsciousness
  • Seizures

When it can happen: Heat stroke typically occurs during hot weather, especially when combined with high humidity. It can also happen during intense physical activity, like exercising or working outdoors for an extended period.

The inability of the body to dissipate heat efficiently when the wet bulb temperature is high, such as 30°C, is due to the combination of high humidity and air temperature. This condition, known as a high wet bulb temperature, reduces the effectiveness of evaporative cooling, which is the body's primary mechanism for heat dissipation through sweating. Unfortunately off late, the wet bulb temperatures are going up steadily due to many factors.
