Reflecting on my journey in the EHS domain from 1985 to 2024 is truly mind-boggling. The metamorphosis in the EHS field is nothing short of remarkable, expanding its scope beyond Safety and Environment to encompass multifaceted domains.
What began as a focus on Safety and Environment has now evolved into a comprehensive spectrum including Product Stewardship, Occupational Health, Business Continuity, Ergonomics, Facility Management, Security, and post-9/11, even Vulnerability Assessments. This transformative journey has been both challenging and rewarding.
Back in 1985, armed with an Environmental Masters degree, I could not have foreseen the profound changes that lay ahead. The landscape today is vastly different, necessitating continuous education and adaptation. To stay abreast of these changes over the past 35 years, I found myself acquiring additional qualifications in Safety, Process Safety, Construction-Project Management, ISO standards, and adopting methodologies like 6Sigma.
Crucially, I pursued an MBA in HR to connect Safety to people, recognizing the pivotal role that human resources play in the holistic framework of EHS. This strategic decision has not only deepened my understanding of the intricate connection between safety and people but has also proven instrumental in navigating the evolving landscape of EHS management.
This transformative journey underscores the imperative for continuous learning in the EHS field.
